Diwali is the festival of lights, happiness and enjoyment . Diwali festival starts at Dusshera . Diwali is celebrated as the return  of lord Rama with Sita and Lakshman after defeating Ravana and returning after 14 years of exile  . The reason why the festival celebrated in India because Lord Rama traveled from the South to his kingdom in the North . there are numerous of customs and legends associated with this festival but common to all is lightning of homes, pathways , temples , with the hundreds of diyas and candles .

Diwali the festival of lights illuminates the darkness of the New Year’s moon and strengthens our close friendship and knowledge with a self- realization . Every year on the dark nights of Diwali the sound of firecrackers announces the celebration of the favorite festival of Indians .

The ancient story of how Diwali evolved into such a widely celebrated festival in different in various regions and states of India . In the North particularly in Utter Pradesh , Punjab , Haryana , Bihar , Diwali is the day when king Rama return to Ayodhya after his war with Ravana . People welcome Lord Rama by litting lamp , candles , diyas . Around every street corner can be found the temporary stages for holding the Ramlila – a dramatic rendition of the story of the Ramayan , which continues for several evenings .

On the precious day of Diwali , doorways are hung with torans of mango leaves , and marigold. Rangolis are drawn to welcome guest . Oil diyas arfe arranged in and around the house . because of this lamps , diyas , candles this festival acquired its name :Dipawali or Diwali meaning ‘a rows of lamps ‘All people exchange sweets , wear new clothes , and buy jewellery on this festival , card parties are held in many homes . On this day shops remain open till afternoon , beliving  that good sales on Diwali day predict a prosperous year ahead .

Houses are decorated and Laxmi pooja is organized . They do Aarti and praying for shanti and happiness in their life . . There is  a ritual of immersing a silver coin in a tumbler of milk. The milk is then sprinkled lightly in the rooms of the house .Prasad is kept in front of the idol throughout the night. People meet their relatives , close friends and distribute sweets , gifts and give blessings to each other . Many of them donate money , clothes , sweets , crackers , and eatables to old age home , orphnage , and to poor children so that they can also enjoy Diwali festival . On this day whole world is shining and enjoying this festival
